Abstract

Teacher centered learning has weakened the development of student potential which has an impact on learning achievement to be not optimal and impressed verbalism. The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of the ability of class VIII students of Fasting Material with the Discovery Learning learning model. The approach used is quantitative with a Classroom Action Research (PTK) research model. Conducted in four stages; planning, action, observation, and reflection through the determination of the cycle. The research subjects consisted of VIII grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sukamakmur who did not reach the KKM score 2 girls and 5 boys with a total of 7 students. Data collection techniques through observation, teacher activity, student activity and tests. The results showed that the teacher's activity in cycle I with an average score of 2.9 in the good category, in cycle II with an average score of 3.7 in the very good category. Student activity in cycle I obtained classical completeness of only 40% with an average score of 60 in the poor category, while in cycle II classical completeness had reached 90% and an average score of 90 in the very good category. These results prove that class VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Sukamakmur in applying the discovery learning model can improve student learning outcomes in the cognitive domain.
